Vilna: I have always been moved by the haunting beauty of this song. According to Shmerke Kaczerginski, this song opened “almost every program in the (Vilna) ghetto.” “Vilna” was originally published in 1935 in a song collection of the same name. (Thanks to the Yosl and Chana Mlotek Yiddish Song Collection at the Workman’s Circle for this information.)
Give Us Holiday
One of three songs recorded for my album מזמור לתודה / Mizmor L’Todah / A Psalm of Thanksgiving This poem was contained in Temple Sinai, Toronto’s beautiful Slichot service. I composed it for Slichot in 2012, which Temple Sinai shared with our neighbour, Temple Emanu-El of Toronto. At that service, I sang Give Us Holidays and A Final Prayer.
